Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares

Most Americans will know Chef Gordon Ramsey from the show “Hell’s Kitchen”, a sort of reality game show for chefs.  But he has another series from England that is way more interesting and way more rude, called “Kitchen Nightmares”.

He travels to estalishments on the brink.  Places that are on the edge of death, and more often than not from totally incompetent management and uncaring staff.  Some of these places actually do die even with Ramsey’s insight, and other live.  Along the way it is a lesson in how not to run a business, and how not to hire people.

This show continues in my view of shows that motivate.  With few exceptions, there is always a potential solution or a new road to travel.  Identifying the problems and finding solutions is important, and getting the most reluctant employee to join the new plan and make it all work out.  Ramsey is at his crudest and rudest here.  In Canada, we get the show without bleeps and blanks, so “fuck me” is a very common phrase in this show.  It is really quite funny to hear him go off on people.

“oh my fucking hell!” is Ramsey’s comment as he watches an otherwise lazy chef moonwalking across the kitchen while patrons wait forever for food.  Sometimes the problems are obvious and easy, and sometimes the problems are more complex.  It is truly entertaining to see him decode the problems and find solutions – all within 7 days.

If nothing else, it is a good lesson in practical business, something everyone should learn.

Days off with an interesting car

I took a day off yesterday (and part of today) and took a little trip to Toronto to do some stuff, see a friend, and do some shopping. Living in Quebec isn’t bad or anything, but language issues and whatnot do keep some companies out of the market place (Old Navy only showed up last year), and Toronto does have a good selection of stores and whatnot.

On the ride back, I got to drive a Toyota Prius. Hybrid car. First hybrid I have ever driven. Nice car.

I refer to it as a video game. You get in, insert your ID chip (not a key) and push the start button. Things light up, the screen comes on, but nothing happens.

Then you take the little joystick and push it towards the D postion, and the car is in drive. Still no noise except maybe the fan for the AC running.

Push the gas, and the car moves away smoothly and if you push enough, engages the actual engine. Drive along to the first traffic light, stop for the red, and the car shuts off the engine and just dies. Until you push the gas to go, and the process continues.

I drove all over Toronto (almost 150kms in town) and back to Montreal (550kms) and averages 5.2l/100kms or 45 miles per gallon, in a car with an interior the size of a camry.

Yowsa!

Anyway, more later…just wanted to mention that:)

King of Cars

Every so often I see a show on TV that doesn’t just entertainment, but in fact inspires me to be a little bit better. Watching the story of “Chop” (rumored to be named either Joel or Josh Towbin) who runs a Dodge dealership that sells a total ass load of cars (claims 8000 sales a year!) is entertaining, that is for sure. Chop is a real character, a total crank, but a damn good one. He plays the semi-rap star business man to the Nth degree, and does it well. But it isn’t in the character per se that I find the good, but in the message.

First off, most of his sales staff are younger people. Chop claims to have started buying and selling mopeds when he was 14, and he seems to have a knack for finding younger people and giving them a chance to sell cars. That alone puts him ahead of many dealers, that want nothing but the long term professional closers with a long list of past clients and tons of experience. Chop actually prefers to have new sellers in his team, not worrying about killing off bad habits but rather teaching them how to sell and how to make it work.

… and make it work they do.

Basically, his sales people have some power, but that power centralizes down to the “sales tower” where a staff with computers and such actually crunch the numbers. Their sales technique is basically get the customer hooked onto a car (usually giving them a decent little test drive) and then sitting them down and saking the old “how much do you want to pay?” question. They run the numbers from what is on the car, and come up with a basic number, and then they work to split the difference and effectively raise the customers limit as high as possible. The sales tower people work the numbers apply the available financing deals and rebates into the process, and they go back and forth. It is a powerful process because it removes the pressure from the salesman because he isn’t really the one crunching numbers, so it isn’t his fault. It puts the salesman on the customer’s side, which is another powerful sales tool.

Each of the sales people is part of a team. Their team leaders can step in and help them out to make the deal happen. Sometimes these guys will push to up the value of a trade or try to figure out alternate routes for financing if there are issues, but again they are doing this on the customers side… another powerful tool, getting all these people on your side. What a system!

Finally there is the sales general manager and Chop himself… with enough people in the, sales get made. Towbin Dodge often sets goals to sell cars to over 25% of the customers in the door, a huge number.

Chop’s tools are motivation, wild sales promotions (including a huge rated Chopper Show Infomercial) a crazy cast of characters and wild antics (HIT THE GAS!). He inspires his sales staff to get out there and sell like mad, he tracks their action closely and VERY publically, and isn’t shy to tell people they are in the business of selling cars. They bring it to the front and center, the whole dealership, parking area, and everything are just one huge sales area. Some people may find it a little touch pushy, but they sure don’t let people get away.

Let me add this: Chop’s father is apparently the actual owner of the dealership, Chop grew up in an affluent family and certainly ain’t no gangsta… but he walks the walk and talks the talk that means he can talk to both young and old. He is totally 100% impeccably dressed, sharp and styled, and he knows exactly how to present himself. Regardless of his upbringing, regardless of his success, this guys hasn’t forgot the basics. When it comes to business, he has a simple rule “make a move”. DO SOMETHING.

At the end of the day, I write this mostly because the guy inspires me in some ways that I find interesting. I think it is just that everything they are doing is with a specific goal in mind. He has his eye on the ball ALL of the time, and they are paying attention not only to creating a fun and wild sales environment that the people like, not only working outlandish TV shows and personalities that come with it, but looking hard at the numbers and making moves based on them. It is the ultimate for me in having fun and making money without letting one or the other get in the way. Balancing those two things together Chop has create something that is bigger than the sum of the parts… impressive.

The King of Cars show runs Tuesdays on A&E (Click here for their king of cars site) or you can check out the Towbin Dodge site. Watching the informercial (click here to see the chopper show) will tell you more about this place…

Knock knock!

I am sure that Chop will be impressed if he finds comments about his show on a porn site, but there ya go. (Chop, if you are reading this, drop me an email or hook me up… knock knock!).

Weekend etc

What do you call the day after two days of rain? Monday.

Looks like another potentially wet weekend here, so I am certainly in front of the computer rather than being out pulling weeds and basically cleaning up the house (or moving my sat dish… ongoing bullshit that is).

Mostly though this weekend is all about the porn… In the words of Chopper “Hit the gas! make a move!”. Tons and tons of good ideas and concepts floating around, and I am trying to jam them all into working order in short order. Summer time in the adult online business can be a little bit slower than normal as people go outside and enjoy the nice weather, but the reality is that they are just a little more choosy and value their online porn time more because they have less of it. In the winter prime time is east coast 9PM or so… in the summer, that can move all the way to midnight, which means people are not in front of their computers until later, so they don’t have time to fuck around and surf in circles looking at nothing. They want action. Action I will bring!

Here is some nice new shit to enjoy:

Erotic Stories: Glenda’s Vacation is a nice summer travel story with a dirty, dirty twist!

Big tits: Lanny Got Boobs – see sexy Lanny Barby in a bunch of hot fuck movie clips

This week’s hot movie at the box off is Jennifer Aniston’s Break up. Check out the reviews and news.

There is a bunch more, I will post again later… but try to enjoy your weekend anyway! 🙂

Weird week so far

Month ends always bother me.  I guess it is a personality defect, but I don’t look at what was accomplished as much as what was missed, forgotten, or never gotten to.  It can sometimes be mentally crippling to look at all you didn’t do in a month… one thing about building porn sites and whatnot is that there is always more you COULD do… it just isn’t always mentally possible or there just isn’t enough time.

Speaking of porn, would you like some Camel Toe?  Click here to check out Sasha’s Cameltoe Pussy

(Wanna see me stick Nine Inch Nails through each one of my eyelids?  Slim Shady your so cool… )

Anyway, it is the start of the hurrican season, and of course the media is going ape shit.  Typical media thing, last year was the “big one”, so it could happen this year so let’s report on shit like mad making it look like we are concerned so that we can get that 0.1 more rating point for the week.   For all the money spent getting these guys on the ground in New Orleans, they could have rebuilt some of those houses or paid a crane to come and help move some shit and put space back in order.   I don’t need the news anchor to be standing on a levee in the lower ninth ward… a fucking video is enough, guys.   Donate the money it would cost instead and make a difference, not just noice.

The only good thing is the more the hype, the less likely is that shit happens this year.

Anyway, get out there and enjoy the free porn… check out findpics free porn for more!

To Catch a Predator… the missing link

Dateline NBC has been doing a series of shows called To Catch a Predator. These shows focus on adult men who trolll around internet chat rooms, looking for teens (mostly girls, sometimes boys) for sexual encounters. For the most part, the age of the teen is set at 14 or 15. Many of these guys are repeat offenders, having been arrested in the past for other offences of a simlar nature.

The show has been a big eye opener for many americans, who has seen the internet through a whole different eye. For the adult industy, it has actually been a really good thing in my opinion because it shows that it isn’t porn sites that are making the internet dangerous, but rather those abusers and criminals that would otherwise be cruising the mall and burger shops.

The internet just made it easier for them to go fishing without as many apparent risks. No public exposure, little risk of running into police and whatnot.

I applaud NBC for their effort, they have really shown how things work. They have trapped out 130 perverts in the last couple of years.

Wonderful.

I wish though that they would spend some time on the missing link, the actual cause, the root cause of this problem isn’t the predators… it is the children left alone to surf the net, enter chat rooms, operate web cameras… ending up looking more like an open invitation to predators. Kids with computers, internet access and a closed door is a very dangerous combination.

Dateline should work with the police and set up the reverse sting. Become the predator, hit myspace and the chat rooms, and start fishing. Find the kids home alone, talk them into a meeting or giving up personal information, and then go for it. Hook up with the kids (with police present) and then go find the parents. Show them what the heck their chidlren are up to, and teach parents all over america how to keep their children from being victims.

It is about time someone took responsiblity for their children, and understood that these crimes only happen when the children are not cared for, not supervised, and allowed to run free when they are too young to accept the responsilbity.

Holiday in the US

Memorial Day weekend is mostly important to me because as an auto racing fan, I get a triple play this weekend… The F1 Monoco GP, the Indy500, and the Coke600… ( you can get all the results by visiting Racing News… )

So as a result, Sunday was spent actually indoors much of the time, enjoying the racing and attempting to get some work done (which I did) and napping out.  This has lead to my current problem, for me it is still Sunday night but it is Monday 6AM.  Not sleeping, not good.  🙁

Anyway, the F1 race was a decent start to the day (got to see it live on TSN, no waiting for the CBS tape delay for me), although Monaco’s track is very tight and not at all easy to pass on, which leads to much of the action coming in the pits as people try to leap frog over other cars in pit stop exchanges.  Michael Schmacher, starting last after a penalty for being creative in trying to keep the pole ran from 22nd to 5th, proof that some passing is possible, I guess, and looked like a better man for doing it.  Alonso won again… the points run away is starting.

The Indy500 was a real classic, decided on the last straight of the last of 200 laps… damn good racing.

The Coke600 was long, with tiny little fuel cells there was something like 20 pit stops, the race took a long time to run, and the last laps a bit of an anti-cliamx.  Congrats to Kasey Kahne, he did a fine job putting a Dodge in the winner’s circle and making sure that Jimmie Johnson didn’t end up there again.

As for work, well, nothing much I can show you at this point, some template development for galleries, and some back office work on sites and stuff that it pretty hard to track down.  You can see some “please fuck my wife” videos if you click here, that is one thing I did today that was public.  Otherwise, it really was behind the scenes stuff setting up for a very, very busy month of June. June will have new galleries, free sites, and blog entires every day, so stay tuned and RSS or bookmark this site, because I will be listing much of it here so you can find it.

I added about 200 new galleries in rotation to Sexy Asian Thumbs…  and reviewed and approved a bunch at Thumbskingdom as well.  Enjoy!
